The first Saturday of May is always a glorious time in the Bluegrass where every gal wears a giant hat with their spring dress and every guy wears a seersucker suit. It’s Derby Day.
A rain-soaked crowd filled the stands at Churchill Downs to watch the 144th annual Kentucky Derby to witness WinStar Farm’s Justify break the “Apollo Curse” by being the first horse to win the Derby despite not racing as a two year old.
Knott County HRC’s facility and staff threw their own Derby Party to celebrate the occasion. The staff played “My Old Kentucky Home” and the sounds of the bugler echoed throughout the halls, Derby-themed decorations and stuffed horses were everywhere as residents made small bets on their favorite horse’s name and enjoyed snacks throughout their watch party.
